Sanni has been chosen to the faculty of the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich (Hochschule für Musik und Theater München) and will be teaching part time at the jazz department starting the Fall semester 2008.

This summer has started beautifully with some rest by the lake, seminar on Nightingales and an international jazz meeting. You'll here Sanni at least in Latvia, Estonia, Germany and the Black Sea in the coming weeks. Few pictures of the IAJS meeting and a link to more photos available at the 'pics' section.

A great effort from the StadtTheater Fürth in Nürnberg, Germany brings together 33 dancers and choreographers from 33 countries joined by a group of improvising musicians. I will join the project as the "vocalist" or the "sound maker". Rehearsals and shows during the next two weeks.

A concert version of Heikki Sarmanto's new jazz opera Manon premier's in Kuopio Music Centre, Finland in May 18, 2007. I was invited to coach all the vocalists for the show; an exciting collaboration between classical and contemporary trained artists, soloists, choir, jazz band and a symphony orchestra on the way!

Spring has sprung into summer in Helsinki. I'm getting ready to return to NYC this week and can't wait to get back to work right away! In addition to couple of private hits this weekend we will be back in the beautiful La Lanterna di Vittorio this Monday with Ben Monder and bassist John Hebert. Sure to be fun - Come by if you're in town!
February 26, 2006 | On the go...
It's been a beautiful week of music and friends here in NYC. We closed at Metsovo in great spirits, the band really got together during the past month, and Monday at the Bar Next Door w/ Ben and Hans was another beautiful musical journey. I visited Skyline Studios on Tuesday and got together a rough mix of Leino Songs, couldn't keep myself from putting a little sample to the Music section, altough it's NOT finalized yet. Go and check it out! The most incredible fun was to be part of George Gruntz's Jazz Opera "Magic of a Flute" in Pennsylvania last night. Now it's time to start packing for an upcoming trip to Finland, I'll be leaving for Helsinki on Wednesday for some more music, snow and ice hockey...

Blizzard takes over NYC, I have nearly 50 cm (23 inches that is) snow on my garden table and more is falling down as I write... but we're ON for Metsovo tonight, Willard is happily stucked in Florida since the airports here are closed at this time but we are playing with Carlton and Ron. Come down and enjoy the benefits of living music and fire place!

Two beautiful gigs this weekend, thank you to all of you who came and shared your spirit with us. Sundays at Metsovo are turning to a real treat with the grand piano and the fire place, and Monday night with Ben was inspiring as always. We will play again on Feb 20, check the Calendar for details... Studio is booked for next Monday! We will finally record the Eino Leino songs with Russ Lossing and the sax player Ole Mathisen. Very exciting and SO much fun!!!
